We have interviewed Nephos Technologies, a specialist data services partner providing end to end data governance services across data intensive industries. Lee Biggenden, the co-founder and CEO, shared how the company helps organizations bring clarity, control, and value to their data, and how its partnership with Accurity is enabling customers to accelerate governance initiatives and innovation.

Getting to know Nephos

To start, could you briefly introduce Nephos and your role there?

Nephos were founded 15 years ago and is a specialist data services partner providing end-to-end data governance services - covering strategy, tooling, managed services, and operational delivery across data-intensive industries.

As Co-Founder and CEO, my role is to ensure that we continue to grow, innovate, and deliver the highest quality service possible. Our team are incredibly proud of our customer retention levels, consistently above 96% over the past 5 years, which I think is an excellent sign of the quality of our work and the long-term relationships that we build with our customers.

Which industries, solutions and services does Nephos focus on today?

Our primary field of expertise is data governance, which can support initiatives such as discovery and classification, DRD, or minimisation. In our work with Accurity, the focus is often on helping businesses leverage their data to drive more value-based outcomes.

Whilst a number of our customers are in regulated industries like financial services and healthcare, we also serve some of the largest global brands in industries like engineering, as well as media and advertising. In truth, though, the services that we provide apply to any data-intensive business that is serious about how it manages and governs its data.

How would you sum up your mission and the value you bring to customers?

We exist because we believe that data has the power to drive smarter decisions, create competitive advantage, and unlock real innovation - but only when it’s governed, protected, and made accessible in the right way. Our purpose is to make that potential a reality for every enterprise we work with.

There are few options out there when it comes to partners that can help organisations move beyond just buying tooling. Understanding the tooling is one part of the equation, but it has to work alongside people and process. Our value comes from our expertise in bringing these things together to operationalise data governance programmes and speed time to value. Our approach is very much focused on the customer outcome, which is critical.

When did Nephos first come across Accurity, and in what context?

As a business, we strive to continually innovate and establish new partnerships that enhance the value we deliver. About three years ago, while investigating various data catalogues and business glossary tools, we discovered the team at Accurity. We were seeking more cost-effective and more straightforward solutions than some of the more mainstream names in that market.

How the partnership with Accurity began

Why did you decide that Accurity was the right partner for Nephos?

Accurity offered a comprehensive platform that went far beyond addressing a single element of governance. Their solution integrated catalogue, glossary, data quality and lineage in a way that bridged an important gap compared to other offerings that can’t or don’t connect these elements for one single view of the customer’s data. This, combined with the commercial and support model as well as the collaborative engagement that we’ve experienced, made Accurity a very compelling partner.

How you and Accurity work together

How would you describe the nature of the partnership in practical terms?

The partnership is built on a system integrator model, with Nephos Technologies acting as the trusted advisor and implementation partner for our customers, and Accurity providing the innovative technology platform. Our delivery model offers flexibility for customers, allowing them to choose between a traditional integrator and implementation model or a managed service.

Where Nephos and Accurity create the most value

From the customer perspective, what does the combined Nephos and Accurity offering deliver?

Together, Nephos and Accurity help customers establish strong data foundations that enable them to unlock real value. While many organisations aim to drive analytics, AI, and digital transformation, their ambitions are hindered by a lack of trust and visibility into their data. By combining Accurity’s governance platform with Nephos’ practical expertise, we help customers create trusted environments that accelerate value realisation, improve compliance and set the stage for innovation. The combined strength of strategy and technology delivers outcomes that are both effective and lasting.

What types of customer problems are you typically solving together?

Many organisations struggle to use their data because they cannot trust its quality, easily find it or fully understand it. Together, Nephos and Accurity address these issues by delivering solutions that create a common business language through glossaries, simplify discovery through catalogues and provide assurance through quality and lineage. These capabilities mean that business users can locate, trust and use their data with confidence, leading to better decisions and stronger outcomes. We are solving the fundamental challenge of making data truly usable.

A closer look at the Vanquis Bank project

Could you share an example of a successful joint engagement, such as Vanquis Bank?

One strong example is our work with Vanquis Bank, where we delivered cataloguing and glossary capabilities to support their new data platform. The Data Governance team wanted to embed strong governance practices from the outset, rather than retrofitting them later. By introducing these capabilities from day one, Vanquis was able to ensure that data management became a foundation of the platform, not an afterthought. This proactive approach set the tone for how data would be managed and used across the organisation.

What outcomes did Vanquis see from the joint work?

The outcome was the successful delivery of a catalogue and glossary capability that was embedded within Vanquis’ data platform and processes, designed specifically for non-technical users. This meant that as data entered the platform, it was automatically brought within the scope of governance. The solution also laid the foundation for broader governance capabilities, including the introduction of Accurity Data Quality to measure, report and improve data quality.

What Nephos gains from the partnership

From your side, what benefits has Nephos seen from working with Accurity?

Working with Accurity has allowed us to add greater depth to our work and strengthen the range of capabilities we can provide to customers. By combining our governance expertise with Accurity’s platform, we can offer a more complete and compelling proposition. This has reinforced our position as a trusted advisor in the market and given us the ability to respond to customer challenges with greater confidence. The partnership has also created new opportunities to demonstrate our value through measurable outcomes.

What kind of feedback do your customers share about engagements involving Accurity?

Customers consistently tell us they value our breadth of expertise and our ability to address governance challenges from multiple angles. By combining our services with platforms such as Accurity, we demonstrate that we are not limited to one-size-fits-all solutions, but rather seek out the right tools for their needs. Customers particularly appreciate that we can support them across the entire governance journey, from strategy through to implementation, backed by innovative technology partners that strengthen and extend our expertise.

Challenges, lessons and how you work together

Like any partnership, there are bumps in the road. What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?

Like any new partnership, there have been some initial challenges as we worked through our first projects together. The most effective way to overcome these has been through open, regular and honest communication between our teams. By addressing challenges quickly and working collaboratively, we have been able to resolve issues and improve our processes. These early lessons have reinforced the importance of communication and helped establish stronger foundations for more efficient delivery and smoother collaboration in the future.

What have you and your team learned from collaborating with Accurity so far?

The partnership has shown us the value of working with a partner that prioritises active communication and collaboration. Accurity has been consistently engaged and responsive, which has built trust and enabled us to work together effectively. For Nephos, this has highlighted that successful partnerships are not only about technology but about shared values and strong communication. This combination has enabled us to deliver better outcomes for customers while strengthening the partnership itself for long-term success.

Looking ahead together

Looking ahead, what are your goals for the next phase of the partnership?

Looking ahead, we want to expand our collaboration by reaching more customers who can benefit from Accurity’s platform and our expertise. We aim to establish Nephos as the go-to partner for deploying and running Accurity solutions, ensuring that customers not only adopt the technology but also achieve lasting value from it. By building on the progress we have made so far, we hope to scale the partnership, broaden its impact and deliver even greater outcomes for customers.
